The 2018 Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) were announced at a black-tie gala in the Grand Ballroom at Sydney’s International Convention Centre on 21 July. A major annual event, the NTIAs recognise excellence in all areas of the industry, and are referred to by many as the Australian travel industry’s Oscars.
Fabulous frocks, a world class culinary experience, a performance by super star Anthony Callea and the largest pool of lucky door prizes in the event’s 11-year history are just some of the Gala Dinner highlights enjoyed by the 1,300 guests who attended.
“The AFTA National Travel Industry Awards (AFTA NTIA) acknowledge the best of the best in the Australian travel industry”, says AFTA Chief Executive, Jayson Westbury.
“Every award category is hotly contested each year, with judges’ expectations regularly exceeded by the calibre of nominations, jury presentations and achievement. 2018 was no exception with a number of previous winners again excelling, and new faces joining the ranks of NTIA winners”, added Westbury.
One of those first-time NTIA winners was flybuys travel who was named Best Online Travel Agency.

“We’re thrilled about flybuys travel winning its first AFTA National Travel Industry Award”, says Brendan Woodward, Commercial and Marketing Manager for Travel at Coles.
“To be acknowledged by the Australian Federation of Travel Agents as Australia’s Best Online Travel Agency is an achievement we’re especially proud of. Our customers love our wide range of airfares, hotels, cruises and packaged ‘Escapes’. They also love collecting flybuys points which add to the value of their travel bookings, the simplicity of the flybuys travel website, our low prices with no booking fees, and the peace of mind that our ATAS-accreditation gives them”, added Woodward.
Westbury says that booking with an ATAS accredited agent means customers are in safe hands and can travel with confidence. “ATAS travel agents have met strict standards and criteria in order to become nationally accredited. Their accreditation means they are the best in the industry, credible, well trained and professional businesses like flybuys travel”, he states.
